The Dutch government, in accordance with the new bill, will ban political parties harmful to democracy, Interior Minister Hanke Breins Slot said. She is quoted by the Dutch newspaper Trouw.
"Parties that gain trust at the expense of votes, at the same time, should not jeopardize our democracy," she said. According to the Minister, parties undermining the "democratic rule of law" or seeking to get rid of this right altogether are subject to a ban.
If the new law comes into force, the Supreme Court of the Netherlands will have the right to ban the activities of any political force, Trouw notes. It is emphasized that today in the Netherlands it is possible to ban only those parties that threaten the security of the country and public order.
Earlier, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe during the meeting unanimously approved a resolution accusing Russian political parties of "aiding terrorism."
